Layout Dual View Support
A layout dual view contains both abstract and layout information. Innovus requires Abstract Generator to generate a partially annotated layout dual view. As a result, Abstract Generator annotates the required abstract information in the layout view and will not generate a separate abstract cellview. The following figure shows how a layout dual view is used in the Innovus flow.

Each of the three run steps of Abstract Generator—Pins, Extract, and Abstract—can generate the layout dual view. You need to run only the Pins step because the antenna, extraction, and blockage information (generated by Extract and Abstract steps) is not required in the layout dual view. When you run the Pins step, Abstract Generator saves a valid view of pins along with the layout dual view so that the Pins view can be used by the Extract and Abstract steps, if required.
The advantages of layout dual view are as follows:
- Innovus no longer needs to maintain the abstract and layout views separately. This helps overcome the problem of maintaining two similar views for layouts that are under development.
- While routing, the router can directly use the layout dual view without the need to master and re-master the layout. This helps increase the productivity.
