Guidelines for Centering On-grid Pins in Innovus
If off-grid pin access is not allowed, you should center pins on grid intersection points. If a pin shape touches a grid intersection point, it is considered on-grid.
If your pins touch grid points, and you do not allow off-grid routing;
- The router will recognize it as needing to be routed, and will avoid it when routing other nets.
-
Depending on the pin shape and position, the router might be unable to route to the pin, or make an efficient connection.

Routing problems can be caused by incorrectly defined on-grid pins. These problems are sometimes referred to as off-grid problems. The router and verify geometry (in Innovus) do not consider a notch a violation. These violations are found by the samenet check.
