Dialog Boxes
Dialog boxes are pop-up windows usually containing a brief message that is displayed to the user. Dialog boxes can be modal or modeless.
-
Modal, or blocking, dialog boxes
A modal dialog box blocks access to the application as long as it is displayed. Users must finish using the dialog box and must close it before they can continue with the application. However, users can still execute window manager commands and use other applications. -
Modeless, or non-blocking, dialog boxes
A modeless dialog box does not block access to the application. It is often used to provide additional information or display a warning message. The dialog box remains on the screen until the user dismisses it.
