Object Flipping
You can flip an object horizontally or vertically. When flipping multiple objects as a group, you can choose to flip them around their own respective centers or around the center of their combined boundary box. The Flip around combined bbox option in the Layout Editor Options form and in the Flip, Flip Vertical, and Flip Horizontal forms helps you specify whether the multiple selected objects need to be flipped around their combined bounding box. If the Flip around combined bbox option is disabled, by default, the selected objects are flipped around their own centers.
You can use the following Flip commands to flip objects in pre-selection and post-selection modes. You can access the commands from the Edit – Flip menu option. You can access the Flip Vertical and Flip Horizontal commands from the Rotate option on the shortcut menu displayed when you right-click on the canvas.
- Flip: Flips an object or multiple selected objects as a group as per the specified reference point and direction. You can specify a custom or pre-defined reference point and choose whether multiple objects need to be flipped around their combined bounding box.
- Flip Vertical: Flips an object vertically. In pre-selection mode, you can use the Flip Vertical form to specify the reference point and whether objects need to be flipped around their combined bounding box in case multiple objects are selected.
- Flip Horizontal: Flips an object horizontally. In pre-selection mode, you can use the Flip Horizontal form to specify the reference point and whether objects need to be flipped around their combined bounding box in case multiple objects are selected.
You must set the stop display level to greater than zero before flipping geometries in the via instances. For Copy and Move commands, the Flip icon on the Edit toolbar is disabled.
While editing an instance or a mosaic, you can specify whether the Flip command uses the instance bounding box, place and route (PR) boundary, or snap boundary (if defined) as the instance border for the flip operation. For example, if you have a standard cell with a large label that extends well beyond the PR boundary, the bounding box of that cell will be much larger than its PR boundary. In the Layout Editor Options form, you can set Instance Editing Mode to P&R Boundary to make the Flip command ignore the bounding box and consider only the PR boundary for the flip operation.
