Support for Shape Trimming during Connectivity
A trimmed shape or a trimmed substrate has one or several areas that can have different connectivity. Trimmed oaShapes and oaVias with a trimmed shape are set as unassigned.
The figure below represents a shape trimmed into two parts by a trim shape. In this example, there are two derived shapes, one assigned to net a and the other assigned to net b. The trimmed shape is set as unassigned in the database.

The figure below represents a p-substrate divided into two areas by a nwell guard ring.

If an instance pinFig is trimmed into several parts by a trim shape, as displayed in the figure below, only one of the derived shapes is considered to be connected to the instance terminal. The other derived shape takes the connectivity of an overlapping shape, if any.

The geometry and connectivity of the derived shapes is preserved between Layout XL sessions as this information is saved in the database.
