Electrically Aware Pins in the Pin Tool

(Virtuoso Layout Suite EXL) In custom layout designs, while it is important for pins and net shapes to adhere to DRC rules, it is also important to ensure that they adhere to the electrical requirements of the designs. Pins should be sized keeping in mind the current carrying capacity of the nets.

The Pin Tool uses the capabilities of Layout Electrically Aware Design (EAD) to derive the electrical requirements of the design. Layout EAD, in turn, uses the electrical data produced by simulation in ADE Assembler and the parasitic information extracted from the layout view to analyze the design against predefined electro migration (EM) checks.

After deriving the electrical requirements for the design, the current specifications on a per-terminal basis and the permissible widths of pins and shapes are calculated.

The Electrically Aware Pin Sizing form lets you identify pins that do not meet electrical requirements and automatically fix these violations.
