Snap-Pattern-to-Snap-Pattern Snapping
Two snap pattern shapes drawn on the same layer-purpose pair (LPP) snap to each other. Assume a FinFET process where snap pattern shapes are used to draw fin boundaries. If two Pcell instances containing fin boundaries are placed close to each other such that their fin boundaries overlap, then Virtuoso automatically aligns the fins of these snap pattern local regions, as shown in the figure below.

When an instance containing multiple snap pattern shapes overlaps a snap pattern shape, then the instance is snapped based on only one of the snap pattern shapes. If the instance partially overlaps the snap pattern shape, one of the overlapping snap patterns is used for snapping.
