Exceptions to Synchronous Clone Generation
If you are experiencing any of the following design situations, synchronous clone generation using the Generate Clones command is not possible:
-
Scenario 1: When the selected clone source includes only the parent, not the child
If two figs exist in a parent-child relationship and you select only the parent fig, the child fig automatically gets added to the clone source figGroup but the clone target figGroup only has the parent fig. Therefore, the synchronous clone cannot be created as the clone source and the clone target do not have the same number of figs. -
Scenario 2: Some clone source figGroups are only “partially selected”
If the schematic window is used to cross-select layout instances that are in a layout figGroup, and if only some of the instances from the layout figGroup are selected, only the “selected” layout instances are cloned. Therefore, the synchronous clone cannot be created as the clone source and the clone target do not have the same number of instances. -
Scenario 3: The clone source and target are not in the same cellview
Layout XL does not support synchronous clone generation when the clone source and the clone target belong to different cellviews. -
Scenario 4: The clone source is a clone figGroup from a family that is not "verified"
If the clone source contains a figGroup from a family that is not verified, the Generate Clones command cannot use it for generating a synchronous clone. To verify the clone families before they can be used as a clone source, either Edit In Place one of the clones or manually run Verify Synchronization using the Update Clone Families form. -
Scenario 5: A mismatch exists between the layout instance master of the clone source and the clone target
This is likely when the clone source and the clone target members are processed differently for abutment, causing a mismatch that prevents them from getting generated as synchronous clones.
