Object Copying

You can use the Copy command to place the copy of an object in a cellview. You can copy an object to the same cellview or to another cellview.

When you copy an object to another cellview, any constraints associated with the object are not copied to the resultant cellview.

The following table describes the support available for copying various objects.

Object Support for the Copy Operation

ROD objects

  • You can copy a ROD object within the same cellview or to another cellview. The system automatically assigns unique names to the copies.
  • Alignment between ROD objects in a selected set determines the alignment between the corresponding copied objects.
  • Alignment with objects that are not in the selected set is ignored.
  • You can copy a whole multipart path (MPP) or a whole multipart rectangle (MPR), but not an individual subpart of an MPP or MPR.

Curved Shapes

The design must be associated with the technology file that has non-IC fabric.

(Virtuoso RF Option) When you copy a curved path, with the gravity feature enabled, the end points of the curved path snap to the end points or centerline of another curved path or to the center of a pin or a via. When you copy a pin or a via, its center is snapped to the end points of a curved path or to the center of another pin or via.

Rulers

You cannot copy a ruler from one cellview to another.

Blockages

  • If only the blockage object is selected, the resultant copied blockage does not have any owner attached to it.
  • If both the blockage object and its owner are selected, the resultant copied owner and blockage objects retain the ownership information.
  • If only the owner is selected, all blockages owned by that owner are copied to the resultant owner object and the blockage ownership information is retained.

This behavior also applies when you copy blockages from one cellview to another.

Boundaries

  • There can only be one PR boundary and one snap boundary in a cellview. Therefore, the Copy command works only when you copy a boundary from one cellview to another. If a PR boundary or snap boundary already exists in the destination cellview, a copy is not created.
  • If you copy an area boundary object with an associated constraint group between cellviews, the constraint group is copied with the area boundary.

You can use the Copy form to create group arrays. For information, see Group Arrays.
